Hello, my name is Karen Varma and I’m a property consultant specialising in rentals in the luxurious areas of Kitisuru, Nyari, Spring Valley & Muthaiga.
Originally from Newcastle in the North East of England, my husband and I moved to Nairobi from London with our infant daughter in 2014. We are now a family of 4, and my children both consider themselves well and truly Kenyan! I have learned to appreciate life in Kenya, from the climate that enables outdoor living, the beauty in seeing colourful flowers on street corners to the truly multicultural experience that my children get in school- I’m grateful to have made Nairobi home.
I have quite a unique professional background having started my working life after university at the multinational FMCG company Procter & Gamble. I remained with P&G for 14 years, until we moved to Kenya, where I chose to pursue my love of fitness and managed to build a loyal following in my HIIT and kids gymnastics classes.
Real estate has always been a feature in my life- my parents would often take us to look at show houses at the weekend and my brother and I would come home and design our own, better versions. I managed to buy my first property at the age of 25 and flip it at double the price just a few years later. I have a lot of personal experience in moving house our family has moved 7 times in the last 10 years, 3 of these have been international!
As an expat, I understand how overwhelming it can be to arrive in a new country and to have to navigate the pitfalls of the local property market.
