Think ahead
It is important to have a budget as moving could be costly depending on how you choose to go about it. You could have a moving company or hire a moving truck which is more cost effective. Before you start packing, it’s important to have a moving date to work with so as to give ample time to the packing process.
Once the moving date is set, then can you start compiling your list that comprises of what not to pack, essentials- being what you’ll need as soon as you get into your new home, charity or trash and what you’ll keep. You’ll also need to get a few supplies such as empty boxes you could easily get from your local retail store and anything else that would ease the process.
Sort first
Identify items you don’t need but can make you some extra money and sell them on an online marketplace or have a garage sale. Sort the items you want to give to charity and give them out before your move date. Remember the more time you have to plan yourself the easier it will be to move.
Packing
It is advisable to spend some time planning what room to start with and how best to pack. Start from the top of the house and work your way down. Pack a room at a time and clearly label the boxes by room and by fragility. This will prevent breakage and make unpacking easy. For fragile items, wrap them in old newspaper or bubble wrap.
