On the afternoon of Wednesday 16th April 2014, 2 of our area specialists, Nili and Sansi, organized a CSR visit for a children’s home in Limuru called The Nest. This was their second event with the Home as they had previously organized a Christmas Party in 2012. This year they decided to have an Easter Party for the children. They also planned an Easter card competition, where the winners were to get prizes for the best Easter card.
The Nest is a children’s home that depends entirely on private donations. Their main aim is to prevent the children of imprisoned mothers from fighting for survival on the street. The Nest rehabilitates and later reintegrates them and their mothers back into society.
Here children receive holistic care and formal education. Children’s ages range from newborn to 17 years old. The Nest ensures the children regularly visit their mothers in prison. They also care for a number of abandoned babies for whom they try to find loving families.
Many items were donated such as maize flour, juice, bread, bar soap, sanitary pads, uji, spaghetti and pasta sauce (a favourite of the kids). There were further donations of nappies, washing powder, clothes and a cake kindly donated by Mini Bakeries.
The afternoon started off with beautiful welcome songs and dances by the children, after which they were given color pencils, crayons and paper to start designing their Easter cards. After about an hour everyone’s card was ready and it was time to know the winners and share cake. Everyone was made a winner and each of them got 4 brand new books, – one of bedtime stories, another, history of the earth, another, an Encyclopedia, and the fourth one an Atlas – which they could share.
It was a joyful day full of talented young artists with lots of laughter, fun and cake. Plans are underway to go back in three months with a new project whereby the children can receive eyesight medical care.
The Nest is always in constant need of food, baby clothes, nappies, clothes, medical supplies, and anything that may be useful for the children. We will continue to support the Nest and hope to help the little faces of the Nest in every way we can.
