So you have built your house, every nail is in place and every board is on the floor. Now, what to do with the walls?

Paint!!The thing about painting a new house is that you have a blank canvas to play with; you are going to live within those four walls for a while, if not forever so you had better paint the walls an interesting color. To create a good sense of harmony and continuity in your home, you need a good color flow, one balanced color scheme that seamlessly connects one space to the next.

Here are a few tips to creating a good color flow in the house.

If you are not sure where to begin with a color, start small. Experiment with a small bathroom or a hallway between rooms. Choose between three to five favorite colors and then alternate the primary and secondary colors for each room. An easy way to create color flow is to choose lighter and darker shades of the same color throughout your home and consider how you would like to see the transition of color from one room to the next.

You may have an idea of what you want, but look to existing furnishings for color inspiration. Pick up colors from fabrics, artwork or a favorite accessory and use them in different rooms throughout your home.

When selecting a color, think about the mood of the room, what mood are you trying to create or achieve in that room? For your bedroom, do you want the mood to be restful and soothing or dramatic and intimate? Soft cool colors and neutrals usually create a quieter feeling while stronger brighter colors are for a dramatic effect.

Color goes a long way in making a room more comfortable, more spacious or inviting. Apart from arrangement, the color palate is the first thing that people will notice about a room, and people will tend to remember something, more if the color was appealing to them in the first place.

Unless you are a decorator by trade, you have probably painted all the walls the same color. Be creative, color is in! Step out of your comfort zone and realize what a joy painting your house could actually be. Having a different color for each room is a fun way to spice every room up and add a little visual interest. Your house is your own and every aspect should tell a story about your personality.

Make your house the envy of the neighborhood; let everyone talk about how amazing your house looks from the inside out.
